The #NHLBruins have announced that Trent Whitfield has been named the 14th Head Coach of the Providence Bruins and Ryan Ward has been added to Providence's coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Trent Whitfield, 49, brings a mix of professional playing and coaching experience to the role. He previously played in the NHL during the 2011-12 season but did not record a point in his only game. Whitfield later played in Austria with Bolzano, where he recorded 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 54 games during the 2013-14 season.
Ryan Ward joins Whitfield as an assistant coach, adding depth to the coaching staff. The move comes as the Providence Bruins continue to build their roster and leadership for the upcoming season.
The Bruins organization has a history of developing young talent through its AHL affiliate, and the addition of Whitfield and Ward is expected to contribute to that effort moving forward.
